[Original Box] IWC Calatrava Jumbo C.8531 36.5mm 1964

Up for sale here is an extremely rare combination, a vintage IWC Calatrava dress watch freshly serviced in immaculate condition with its original box. A highly collectible piece as most watches from this era lack their original box.

Starting with the dial, the dial comes in an absolutely stunning and rare silver horizontal brushed finish and in near flawless condition. This comes paired with a beautiful pair of sharp steel dauphine shaped hands and bullet shaped applied hour indices around the minute track, creating an absolute light show in the right background. Not to mention the applied circle minute markers around the edge of the dial as well.

Moving onto the case, the case comes in immaculate condition. With all of its edges intact and with a beautiful mix of brushed surfaces on the side and mirror polish on the front. Well maintained and professionally polished. It comes in a much sought after 36.5mm diameter which was considerably larger for its time when 34mm and below was the normal size for men’s watches.

On top of the dial comes a rare original IWC domed acrylic crystal, its rarity attributed to the magnifying Cyclopes glass at the 3 o’clock position. Which helps give a clear crisp view of the date display.

Inside the case would be IWC’s revolutionary Calibre C.8531 automatic Pellaton movement. Developed by their then head of engineering Albert Pellaton with an ingenious and mesmerising ratchet system surrounded by beautiful pearl brushed finishing, a true testament to silent hidden luxury. The movement comes freshly serviced in early February 2025. It runs at an excellent ~0s/day, with a time discrepancy too low for the timegrapher to detect. 

Not to mention the watch comes with its original green rectangular IWC solid case. With all its inner velvet lining in near mint collection as if just bought. The watch comes with a comfortable black aftermarket crocodile leather strap and aftermarket steel buckle.
