IWC Calatrava Jumbo R647A C.8531 36.0mm 1966

Up for sale here is a beautiful example of an IWC Reference 647A in the larger Jumbo size of 36.5mm in diameter. A highly collectible piece due to its large size as compared to the normal 34.0mm of its era.

Starting with the dial, the dial comes nearly flawless besides several specks of patina scattered across the dial, barely noticeable to the naked eye. Its beautiful dauphine hands play brilliantly in the light together with the hour marker hands, creating a spectacle in the light.

Moving on to the case, the case comes in the highly sough after 36.5mm large jumbo size. With a manageable lug to lug length of 45.0mm, it wears beautifully on the wrist as a daily watch or dressed up under the cuff of a sleeve. The case comes with no deep scratches, merely some slightly noticeable scratches from its age that can only be seen under certain lights.

The watch comes with one of the first of IWC’s iconic Pelaton automatic movement caliber C.8531. The movement has been recently serviced in May 2024 by a professional watchmaker and runs at an excellent -4.0s/day, which is extremely accurate for a watch of this age.
