IWC Calatrava Automatic R820A Cal.8541 “Jumbo” 36.5mm 1967

Up for sale here is a brilliant vintage IWC Calatrava style automatic watch with the reference R820A in the Jumbo 36.5mm diameter size. Starting with the dial.

The dial comes in a brilliant silver sunburst effect that has been beautifully maintained over the years. Showing little to no signs of wear or damage at all. The dial comes with both the applied large IWC logo and the printed cursive International Watch Co. in perfect crisp lettering, void of any redials whatsoever. The watch comes with a set of sharp dauphine hands that play brilliantly in the light. The hands come paired with applied baton hour markers that all have a small sharp edge to each of them resembling a crayon. Its faceted edges give it a stunning shine in the right lighting. In addition it comes with applied round markers at every minute outside the hour markers.

Onto the case, the case has been professionally polished by a watchmaker leaving it with all of its original sharp edges with a mixed of brushed and polished surfaces. The watch comes with its original IWC fish logo crown to signify its water resistant gasket. The case comes with a screw down case-back that has a nice circular brushing with polished edges.

Inside the watch is IWC’s in house C.8541 Automatic movement that has just been serviced in September 2024 and is running at an excellent -2.0s/day, which is extremely accurate for a watch of this age. The movement has a brilliant circular polishing done to it at certain parts making it a shame that it is housed in a closed caseback.
