IWC Calatrava Automatic R804A C.8541 Jumbo 36.5mm 1964

Up for sale here is a vintage IWC Calatrava Automatic Watch Reference R804A at a Jumbo size of 36.5mm.

The dial comes with a stunning sunburst effect that scatters light brilliantly at the right angles. It comes with the International Watch Co. printed on the dial in crisp cursive format together with the Automatic words, indicating a perfect original printing with no form of redial. The watch comes with sharp dauphine hands with black inserts in the middle giving it a nice contrast. This pairs well with the applied baton hour markers that come with a slight patina to them from age, giving it a nice textured look. In addition the dial comes with applied circle minute markers at every minute around the outer circle of the watch.

The case itself comes in at a Jumbo size of 36.5mm in diameter with a high polish finish all around. It has been professionally polished to maintain all its sharp edges especially near the straight lugs. It comes with IWC’s iconic fish logo on its crown, indicating its water resistance of its time. At the back lies the snap on case-back with a contrasting straight brush centre with the mirror polished edges.

Inside the case houses IWC’s Calibre C.8541 Automatic movement which has a serial number dating the watch back to 1964. The movement has been serviced by a professional watchmaker in September 2024 and runs at an excellent -1.0s/day. Which is on par with most modern watches of today and for a watch of this age very accurate.

Additionally, it has a semi-quickset date function which can be activated by swapping between 1145pm to 1215am to quickly change the date.
